This leadership role provides oversight of all safety initiatives, policies, and compliance programs, ensuring the proactive identification, reduction, and elimination of workplace hazards and unsafe practices.

Job Description
The Safety Director serves as the organization's visionary leader for safety, responsible for establishing and maintaining a safety culture that protects employees, strengthens operational excellence, and supports overall success. This leadership role provides oversight of all safety initiatives, policies, and compliance programs, ensuring the proactive identification, reduction, and elimination of workplace hazards and unsafe practices.
A Day at Engel
- Leader of Engel’s safety program, responsible for creating, maintaining, and brainstorming for current and proactive safety protocols.
- Investigates safety incidents, near misses, and property damage; identifies root causes; and implements appropriate corrective actions, communication, and training.
- Performs in-house training related to site safety and safety related regulations.
- Utilize HCSS safety program to develop, distribute, and maintain weekly Toolbox Talks, Safety Alerts, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and other safety communications.
- Comply with OSHA, DOT and other regulations
- Maintain OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 records and assist with required regulatory reporting.
- Maintain employee safety training records, certifications, and related documentation.
- Monitor company PPE requirements and assist with the selection, availability, and distribution of appropriate PPE
- Performs job site audits, responds to and corrects safety concerns, reward positive safety behavior.
- Ensures required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted in accordance with established Company procedures.
- Work with Superintendents to call in locates.
- Collaborate with HR on Workman’s Comp or Insurance claims
- Assist Fleet Manager with FMCSA/DOT permits and registrations.
- Maintain employee safety training records, certifications, and related documentation.
- Serve as a safety resource for employees and leadership by answering questions, researching requirements, and assisting with safety-related concerns as they arise.
- Represent Engel Excavating in the construction and safety industry.
- Any additional safety related tasks as needed.
What We Are Looking For
- A self-starter professional who takes initiative, solves problems and overcomes challenges.
- Someone who is culture focused and team oriented.
- 3-5 years related safety leadership experience in construction field.
- OSHA Certification.
- Confined Space, HAZWOPER, DOT, and MSHA training.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S) from accredited four-year college or university in a safety & health related discipline is preferred.
- Work effectively in a variety of outdoor and field conditions, including environments that may be physically demanding or subject to changing weather conditions, as well as working near loud noises associated with construction sites.
- Frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, stretch, speak, and hear while performing daily job responsibilities.
- Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or work in positions requiring flexibility and mobility to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
- Maintain the physical stamina, strength, and endurance necessary to perform essential job functions throughout the workday.
